The Chinese Language Summer School is a language and intercultural learning opportunity for 18+ participants who long for having a better understanding of Chinese culture and society. The program will be organized by AFS China and Peking University (PKU), which is located in Beijing and is ranked as one of the best universities in the country.
All language courses aim to improve students’ proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. The compulsory courses are Intensive Reading and Spoken Chinese. All courses are taught in Chinese. Classes will be divided into 3 levels – elementary, intermediate, and advanced. Students will be required to take the Mandarin proficiency test before registering for classes. There will be no more than 15 students in each class. Students pursuing the 8-week program will have to take a second proficiency test during the 6th week of the course. Culture lectures will be held on two afternoons per week and each lasts two hours. All lectures regarding Chinese culture will be conducted in English.
Upon completion of the program, those students who meet the assessment requirements will be issued with a certificate and a transcript by Peking University. Students who attend more than 75% of culture lectures will receive an additional certificate of attendance. Participants will be also provided with a Program Completion Certificate by AFS China.
